In cooperation with the “Digital Transformation” team and the Contract and Claim Management department from the purchasing division of TransnetBW, 51nodes developed a Generative AI pilot. With the pilot, 51nodes was able to demonstrate a time saving of over 50% in the review of claims for service changes. This results in considerable financial savings potential in the mid six-figure range per year. The consideration of the pilot for a transfer to operations has been initiated.
TransnetBW GmbH is the electricity transmission system operator in Baden-Württemberg. Contract and Claim Management (CCM) is part of TransnetBW’s purchasing department. CCM manages the contracts and service change processes for large construction projects such as substations or power line systems in a structured manner. Until now, claims received due to service changes had to be manually compared with the extensive contracts and annexes of several thousand pages to check the basis of a claim.
To support the CCM team, 51nodes implemented an AI pilot based on a “Retrieval Augmented Generation” architecture. Existing contracts were automatically broken down into small sections and stored vectorized in a vector database. The vector database enables quick queries to find the context and relevant parts for a service change in the contracts. Large language models support the retrieval and evaluation of the contract texts by assessing the fitting accuracy and relevance.
51nodes used the no-code platform “promptFusion” from eXation to implement the Generative AI application. promptFusion allows multiple prompts to be tied together in an automated workflow and various language models to be integrated and used. A great deal of attention is paid to data security, which is why promptFusion is ISO27001 and SOC-2 certified.
Jochen Kaßberger, Managing Director of 51nodes, says: “Our structured, multi-stage process ensures that a review takes place after each stage and that only economically viable use cases are implemented. With this prototype, we were able to practically demonstrate the expected theoretical savings potential for our customer.”
Stephan Gebhardt, Digital Transformation Manager at TransnetBW, says: “We learned a lot about generative AI from the experts at 51nodes. Right from the start, we worked towards compliance with internal requirements and specifications and brought the key stakeholders on board, including IT security and data protection. This enabled us to achieve a high level of acceptance of the solution developed with 51nodes, including in the approval processes. The efficiency gains demonstrated by the project encourage us in our course for the further introduction and use of generative AI”.
