On April 1, 2021, IDunion started the second project phase funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) as part of the innovation competition “Showcase Secure Digital Identities”. 51nodes is involved as an associated partner.

In the three-year implementation phase, the IDunion project has set goals including the creation of a European cooperative, the launch of the production network, and the implementation of 40 different pilot applications from several application areas to be implemented during this project phase.

Based on the concept of self-determined identities, applications in a wide variety of fields are being piloted as part of the IDunion ecosystem. These include the education, e-commerce, mobility, e-government, e-health, finance, identity & access management (IAM) and industry/IoT sectors. Concrete application examples include the derivation of the ID card into the available wallets, campus management and educational credentials for students, and master data management for companies or product identities. 51nodes will accompany the second project phase as an associated partner. Jochen Kaßberger, Managing Director of 51nodes, comments: “We are pleased to be one of eight new project partners. IDunion is already providing an important impetus for the future of digital identities. This development will be significantly strengthened in the next project phase.”
