51nodes and Robert Bosch GmbH Present V2X-Interoperability With Self-Sovereign Identity (SSI)

In the course of the German-Dutch delegation trip through the blockchain scene on February 10 and February 11, 2022, 51nodes and Robert Bosch GmbH presented the joint project “Vehicle-to-X interoperability with Self-Sovereign Identity (SSI)”.

Representing southern Germany, Jochen Kassberger (Managing Director of 51nodes GmbH) and Peter Busch (Distributed Ledger Technologies in the mobility sector at Robert Bosch GmbH) provided an overview of their current work and some strategic implications that underscore their hypothesis that open and decentralized concepts such as Self-Sovereign Identities (SSI) can be a fundamental enabler for the V2X interoperability challenge.

The car of the future is part of a digital ecosystem. The mobility sector is moving from a hardware-based, non-networked scenario to a more software-based, interoperable and communication-intensive scenario. This scenario means that the various participants are constantly communicating with each other, either to make traffic flow more smoothly or to obtain information about available services such as parking and charging.

Bosch has been working on this topic for several years. An exciting point here is that in the future Economy of Things, vehicles and other smart city participants will become economic actors in heterogeneous digital networks.

In research projects and soon as part of the GAIA-X 4 moveID project, Bosch, 51nodes and other companies are planning to build a decentralized interoperability layer to digitally coordinate the interaction of all players.

The online event was organized by the Netherlands Enterprise Agency, the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Germany and the Dutch Blockchain Coalition.

51nodes joins the “GAIA-X 4 moveID” project to develop a digital infrastructure for the secure data exchange of automobiles in the smart city

51nodes is partner of the research project “GAIA-X 4 moveID”. Using GAIA-X’s European data space technology, the project aims to create the standards and IT infrastructure for the future of automobility. 51nodes contributes to the creation of a data-driven service ecosystem for road users with its expertise in digital self-sovereign identities (SSI). The three-year project is led by Bosch and has 18 partners including Continental, Airbus and Denso, as well as leading Web 3 companies such as Fetch.AI and Ocean. The German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection is funding the project with 14 million euros.
